Breaking out this summer?
The heat, sweat and extra sunscreen can cause us to have a few more breakouts than we would like, but that's okay! Here are a few tips that may help keep those breakouts at bay:
- Begin to double cleanse. Cleansing your face with an oil based cleanser and then a water based cleanser will clean your skin better that just cleansing once. Oil attracts oils, so it will lift all the makeup, sunscreen and oils your face has on it so your water-based cleanser can cleanse more efficiently.
- Incorporate acne fighting ingredients such as Niacinamide or Salicylic Acid. Niacinamide has been proven to help fight acne by regulating the amount of acne-causing oil being produced by the glands in your skin. It also acts as an anti-inflammatory to help with swelling and redness associated with acne. Salicylic Acid is a powerhouse when it comes to fighting acne. It works by getting deep within the pores of your face, unclogging them. It does this by breaking down the bonds between the dead skin cells so that they can release from the pre more easily. Salicylic acid also decreases the skin’s sebum production, leading to fewer breakouts.
- Avoid touching your face as much as possible, as picking and irritating the pimples or breakout will only make them worse!
- Most importantly, be kind to yourself. Acne is completely normal! Everyone gets pimples!
